Generic WHMIS training needs to be supplemented with workplace-specific training that trains workers on the safe use, handling, storage and disposal of the actual hazardous products that the worker may be exposed to.

Course Overview
WHMIS training course covers the current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015 system. The WHMIS 1988 system was updated to WHMIS 2015 system to align with GHS (Globally Harmonized System) for the classification and labelling of chemicals.
Topics include:
Describe WHMIS 2015/Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and why it’s important
Overview of hazard groups and classes
Identify and apply the information on supplier and workplace labels
Describe the chemicals hazards and how to control associated hazards
Identify the WHMIS 2015 hazard classes and pictograms
Describe the purpose, content and function of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Udesh Kurukulasuriya is a seasoned hospitality professional with over 12 years of experience in management, food and beverage operations, and staff training. He currently serves as a Hospitality Trainer and Administrative Manager at Talent Employment Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, where he develops future industry leaders while overseeing administrative functions. Previously, he was the Manager of Learning and Development at Hayleys Leisure in Colombo, Sri Lanka, leading training initiatives across 13 properties in the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Udesh has also held significant roles in academia as an Assistant Lecturer at CINEC Campus in Malabe, Sri Lanka, where he effectively mentored aspiring hospitality professionals. His earlier career included various operational and managerial positions, such as Restaurant and Bar Manager at Ramada by Wyndham Colombo, and he was part of the pre-opening team at Shangri-La Colombo.
He is a Certified Level 2 Trainer with the Singapore Training and Development Association (SCT 2) and holds an MBA from the University of West London, along with several other qualifications, including an Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training, and Assessing Learning from The City & Guilds of London Institute.
